Novel Fashion >> Masque of the Red Death

Masque of the Red Death (Masque of the Red Death #1) by Bethany Griffin
This week I scheduled a photo shoot with local photographer Diana and a few members from the fashion community, including the always stylish Christine de la Creme to help create some imagery inspired by Bethany Griffin's Mask of the Red Death. The decrepit city in which the story takes place, which has become infested with the Weeping Sickness, is described so vividly and truly conjures up images of a society on the verge of extinction. The aristocracy use their wealth and status to purchase masks to prevent contact with the contagion, and spend their evenings disconnecting themselves from the horrible realities of the world by partaking in all manner of worldly pleasures at the Debauchery Club.

"LIFE IS SACRED. DEATH IS EVEN MORE SO."

"Once they shared an interest in their children, but that was when there were two of us."

"'Tell me we will live through the next few weeks, Araby. Please?'"

"'People say that this is the end. That there is no point fighting it.'"

"'Oblivion.' It is what I am always looking for.'"

I hope you've enjoyed my take on Masque of the Red Death! If you've been inspired to create your own looks inspired by the novel, I would love to see them! Later this week I will place the fashion spotlight on Masque's tortured heroine, Araby Worth, and include the rundowns on the outfits featured in this shoot.

  1. I love this idea! Literature and fashion shoots! I've always wanted to do this myself. But I do have photos of my Marissa Meyer Cinder shoes: http://shannononwritingandrewriting.blogspot.com/2012/01/cinder-by-marissa-meyer-red-shoe.html
